A Hole-in-One Kind of Day

This week we teed off a truly special event – a Golf Taster Day in proud partnership with Kent Golf and Growing Golf, held at the stunning Tudor Park Golf Club. The sun was shining as members of our Kent Down’s syndrome community came together with their families for a fun-filled, inclusive introduction to the game of golf.

Tim Ewer from Kent Golf, alongside Mark Trow and Chris Pearson from Growing Golf brought the day to life with passion, patience, and pure enthusiasm. The group was split into three rotating stations, giving everyone a chance to try their hand at putting, chipping, and long shots on the driving range.

  • Mark led the fun on the putting green, where creative and playful layouts helped the kids get to grips with the basics of precision and control.

  • Tim introduced groups to chipping on the pitch and putt course, giving helpful tips and encouragement to all.

  • Chris manned the driving range, showing how to drive those long balls with confidence and energy.

Each group rotated every 30 minutes, ensuring everyone got to experience each element of the game. Laughter echoed across the greens, and some serious competitive spirit came through – it was heartwarming to watch whole families engage, support each other, and enjoy every moment.

We were incredibly grateful to Tudor Park Golf Club, a private members’ club, for hosting us on their beautiful grounds. Their welcoming attitude and the exceptional quality of the greens made this a truly first-class experience – not only for the children but also for their families, many of whom had never played golf before.

“It was such a pleasure seeing the youngsters out there playing golf, some for the very first time. Their siblings and parents also got involved which was lovely to see, and the afternoon was filled with fun and laughter.”

We also had a very special reason to celebrate – it was Zac’s 14th birthday, and he had a brilliant time celebrating with his family.

“We had a great day at the golf! It was Zac’s birthday and he loved the fact his 2 older brothers joined us – it was the perfect activity for all ages. None of us had played golf before and we all got quite competitive. Thanks again for organising it – this is probably something we would never have tried as a family of five.”

We all had a lovely time practicing our golfing techniques with the lovely pros who were all great and made it fun for us all. Great event, thank you.”

This day highlighted just how accessible and inclusive golf can be when the right people come together with the right intentions. A huge thank you to Kent Golf, Growing Golf, Tudor Park Golf Club, and to all the families who joined us – your energy and smiles made the day what it was.
