Understanding Vision in Down’s Syndrome - 2024

Delivered by the Head of the Down’s Syndrome Vision Research Unit at Cardiff University, Dr Maggie Woodhouse, hosted by 21 Together.

Maggie is an Optometrist and Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University. She has been studying the development of vision in children with DS for over 30 years and runs a clinic that provides eyecare for children and adults with all forms of special needs.

Maggie is passionate about the importance of tailoring the eye examination and the management of eye problems to the child. Routine protocols for typical children may not be appropriate for a child with DS.

Overview and Purpose:

This session is aimed at anyone supporting a child or young person with Down’s syndrome that would like to find out more about how eyes and vision differ in children with DS, and what parents and teachers need to know about how the children see.

This video is from the Zoom session we hosted, with a Q&A at the end.
