WDSD 23 Circus Celebrations
Our World Down’s Syndrome Day celebrations for 2023 were a smash with our Circus themed day!
We sold out our tickets and had a day packed with entertainment and smiles. We had The Head2Head Sensory Theatre with their Chicken Circus live show to kick off the festivities, performing their sensory adaptation of the Animal Tales children’s story by the late Terry Jones. The Chicken Circus is the colourful tale of Mr Fox who steals chickens so he can train them as circus performers. The show was Makaton-friendly, curated especially for SEND audiences. It had the kids in attendance laughing, shouting, screaming and getting involved!
Next up we had Magic Al, bringing his magician skills, juggling abilities and fantastic balloon show, which surprised everyone and had the kids in stitches!
We had the finale of the #21Challenge, where staff paired off against each other in a race against the clock. The first team to put on 21 extra items of clothing were the winners! The on-stage race was won by ‘The Old Girls’ who unfortunately were down to one member (Jo) after Alex cut her finger earlier in the day.
Alongside all the fabulous live entertainment, we had a variety of other things going on throughout the day, like ‘Games on Wheels Kent’, having their gaming bus parked out the front, pre-loaded with Fifa, Fortnite and all other games for our young people to enjoy.
We had face painting, soft play, arts & crafts, cakes, finger buffet - something for everyone! All made possible and supported by our community coming together to celebrate World Down’s Syndrome Day.
