Communication Groups Volunteers
Communication Groups are speech therapy-led sessions with an emphasis on social skills, conversations, friendships, and relationships. The groups provide additional support for children and young people to build self-awareness, awareness of others and socially appropriate behaviour.
We are looking for volunteers to help out on a Saturday when these sessions are running. It may be that an additional person is needed in the room to support the smooth running of a group, or it may be that we need a host to welcome the parents and assist them whilst their children are in a session. The position will require you to interact closely with young people with Down’s syndrome, teaching staff and speech therapists.
21 Together highly values staff professional development, so the role will come with training and access to expert knowledge/experience. We are looking for people with an excellent rapport with young people, who can adjust their social communication style according to the needs of the young person. This position would suit an energetic individual with a can-do attitude and a love for learning new skills.
Time commitment:
Communication Groups run every other Saturday during term-time (based on 3 terms per year). Any commitment on these dates would be greatly appreciated.
Remuneration
The role of a volunteer is a voluntary position and is therefore not remunerated. However, reasonable expenses for travel, training and prior approved expenses incurred in carrying out duties may be claimed.

Skills required
This position would suit someone looking for an ad-hoc volunteering role, particularly those who have an interest in speech and language or teaching.
Confident communication skills with a range of ages and learning abilities
Ability to engage in the delivery of activities according to guidance from the Speech and Language therapist, specialist teacher and group lead.
Innovative with strong interpersonal skills and good team player.
Ability to demonstrate discretion and to handle confidential information sensitively.
