Holiday Speech Club Volunteers
These are intensive three-day sessions in the Easter and Summer holidays and are aimed at primary aged children. Run by Symbol Connect UK Ltd therapists with 21 Together staff available to support, providing the children and young people with a more intensive environment to work on speech, social skills, friendships, appropriate behaviour and social interaction. It also gives parents/carers some time to spend with other family members or just some time to themselves.
We are looking for volunteers to help our staff deliver these sessions. The position will require you to interact closely with young people with Down’s syndrome, teaching staff and speech therapists.
This is a very unique experience, and would be excellent for anyone training for (or currently doing) speech and language therapy, education, or just those who consider themselves to be a child-friendly, people-person who want to make a real difference!
Time commitment:
Each Club runs consecutively for three days with a half-day training before it starts. The training is compulsory and gives you a chance to meet the staff/therapists and discuss the individual needs of each child attending the camp so that you are fully prepared for the days ahead. It will also cover some key areas of the specific learning profile of children with Down’s syndrome.
It is vital that when you are registering as a volunteer you are clear on your availability and can attend every day. This is important for the consistency of adults for the children.
