Future Planning Workshops

These workshops are open to parents and carers in Kent, supporting children and young people with Down’s syndrome.

They will highlight key information regarding future planning and will allow a short opportunity for Q&A.

Provider: Thackray Williams Solicitors

The sessions will be led by two Partners from Thackray Williams Solicitors - Andrea Kershaw and Nima Stepney

Dates: Wednesday 6th AND Wednesday 13th November (you can attend one date or both)

Time: 7:30-8:30pm

Location: Online via Zoom

Cost: £10 refundable deposit per attendee for one session OR £15 for both sessions

You can opt to have your deposit returned to you, or donate it to 21 Together; deposits will not be returned in the event of non-attendance.

Session 1: Wills, Tax Planning and Trusts

Wednesday 6th November, 7:30pm - 8:30pm

This session will cover the importance of making a Will and most importantly the options that are available.

  • Choosing executors and trustees

  • Guardians

  • Different types of Wills, including trusts to protect vulnerable beneficiaries and Discretionary Trusts

  • Lifetime Trusts

  • Inheritance tax, and the current rules and tax planning opportunities

  • Q&A opportunity

Session 2: Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Financial Planning

Wednesday 13th November, 7:30pm - 8:30pm

In addition to the solicitors, this session will also be attended by a financial advisor. The session will focus on managing the finances of a vulnerable person and covers:

  • Being an Appointee for benefits

  • Lasting Power of Attorney (LPAs) for those who would have capacity to make them

  • The difference between LPAs for Property and Finance and Health and Welfare

  • Court of Protection applications for the appointment of a Deputy

  • Financial planning

  • Q&A opportunity

1:1 appointments are available with the solicitors following the workshops. These can be online; at their bases in Sevenoaks, Bromley, West Wickham and London; or they can offer home appointments. 21 Together takes no responsibility for any events following this training session; you book further appointments at your own behest.
