Empowerment Session - EHCP Support
Come and join us for our next Empowerment Session.
These are designed to provide you with the knowledge and tools to best support your children and young people. Aimed at those with children of school age and beyond we will have regular speakers to provide expert guidance on various areas of social care and support. Helping you access the support required from 21 Together staff, guest speakers and other parents/carers that may have been there before you!
During this session we will hear from Johanna Aiyathurai, 21 Together’s Charity Manager and Head of the Community Support Service, giving an overview of the EHCP process with our top tips for navigating the process.
Rachel Butcher, Assistant Principal at a Kent Primary School, will also be in attendance to share her experiences from a school perspective. Rachel has been a teacher in Primary schools for 12 years, most recently as the Inclusion Leader and SENCO and is passionate about inclusion and ensuring that all the children in her school and cluster schools are provided with the resources and support that they need and deserve. Her school’s most recent Ofsted rating was good with the SEND provision gaining outstanding. Rachel is also a mother of two children aged 6 and 4. Her son has Mosaic Down Syndrome, the diagnosis was given just before his fourth birthday so it was a steep learning curve for them. The family have attended Tribunal at The Royal Courts of Justice to fight for what he was entitled to in his EHCP which, as Rachel says, “was a surreal and intense experience to say the least”.
There will be a Q&A session to give you the opportunity to seek advice but please bear in mind that any in depth issues will need to be addressed separately through our Community Support Service.
